8 Gifts For Women Who Explore

Your 2018 Gift Guide for the Female Explorer

Look, ladies, you know that your partner, kids, parents, and friends are searching for your holiday gift as we speak. You have a small window of opportunity to ask for what you really want. For many of us, this is difficult. Things like equal pay, full rights over our bodies and walking the streets at night fear-free, don’t come beautifully wrapped and tucked under the Christmas tree. So, one must get a little creative. Don’t worry, we’ve decided to help our fellow adventuresses out by putting together our own list of the best gifts for women. So without further ado

What Women Really Want for Christmas

A Handcrafted Journal

Journaling is a favored pastime for women who wander and adventure. It’s perfect for capturing special moments, epiphanies, and dreams while on the road. And when you aren’t able to travel, journaling allows for the exploration of the internal landscape.

Well, we found the perfect handcrafted journals for our gift list. Iona Handcrafted Books is a woman-owned business out of Austin that sells handcrafted, leather journals, and they are beautiful! Each one a true work of art. They come in a variety of sizes, colors, and designs. You can choose from existing journal designs or you can choose to customize your order. If you go the route of a customized journal, there are a variety of leathers and paper (including bamboo paper) to choose from. Our favorite pre-made designs include the One-of-a-Kind Journals, which come with vintage hinges and unique closures. They are each unique, so if you see one you want, you’ll need to grab it fast.

Light & Affordable Camera

There’s nothing like capturing your most treasured moments on film—especially when you are on the road. Having a camera that is easy to tote around and that produces great pics with a simple point and click is key: life happens fast when you are adventuring. Our top picks for cameras under $200 include three options from Cannon’s ELPH Series: Canon PowerShot ELPH 360 Digital Camera , Canon PowerShot ELPH 190 Digital Camera & Canon PowerShot ELPH 180 Digital Camera.

Now we know when you are on the go, you want to get some great video clips too. Ask Santa for GoPro HERO7! It’s even waterproof for those rafting, hot spring and ocean adventures you are lining up

There’s nothing like a good cocktail at the end of a long day—especially when the liquor is made by a bunch of ladies. That’s right. Freeland Spirits is a woman-owned distillery based out of Portland, and the women who work there create both bourbon and gin in small handcrafted batches.

Freeland Gin was launched in December of 2017, their bourbon followed shortly after in November of 2018. A bottle from this company makes the perfect gift for the holidays.

Adventure Backpack

If you love the outdoors or have dreams of backpacking across Europe, then a purse just won’t due. You need a sturdy, reliable backpack. We have put together a couple of options for you to choose from. Consider the Gregory Mountain Products Jade 53 Liter Women’s Multi Day Hiking Backpack for that serious deep-woods adventure you’ve always wanted to experience. We love Cotopaxi (in fact, they made my main backpack). Consider the Nazca 24L Pack for day outings or overnighters or the Cusco Pack  for getting around town or toting your belongings on a road trip.

Look, the bottom line is what we want for the most part is a whole lot of adventure. Ask your loved ones for funds to go towards one of the following experiences:

Girls Getaway with OARS: Get the girls together for an all women’s whitewater adventure. OARS not only provides incredible experiences, they also employ a large number of female guides!

All-Women Climbs: We’ve told you about them before, but we will do it again. Check out International Mountain Guides’ All-Women’s experiences at Mt. Rainier and other locations.

Iceland: A Mother/Daughter Adventure: What better gift could you get and give than an excursion to Iceland with your daughter. Even better: it’s hosted by a woman-owned business. Online:

Awaken Retreat: Spend a weekend in the beautiful Central Oregon wilderness with a tribe of women who are ready to explore their lives and transform. Read about it here. Reserve your spot here: Awaken Retreat Event. Online:
